Bollard lights are a very useful way of lighting a garden or parking area if you need to be safely led along a particular path after dark. They usually light the way at knee height or thereabouts and so although they don't light the way brightly, they light where your feet will be treading, which is the main safety feature that is required from this type of lighting. They are mainly modern in style and are really intended to fade into the background rather and are often placed among planting, to pick out specimen plants or trees.

Bollard lights are more often sold and fitted in sets, and are wired in series. They can be switched or motion sensor controlled, and of course is also available as solar powered units in these times of environmental awareness. Here at Lighting Majestic we give you full details of what kind of fitting is required and also bulb types. Most outdoor bollard lights are made in metal finishes, although there are some very attractive bollard lights from Norlys which are available in a wood finish which would look particularly attractive if set in a planted area or around decking , especially in a natural woodland setting.

Before fitting your outdoor bollard lights, it would be a good idea to spend some time in your garden or the approach to your house, in the dark, working out where they would be best sited. Although they are not difficult to fit, it is obviously easier to get the location of your fittings right first time. Areas to look at especially are steps, corners and anywhere where there might be a projecting object over the path or an unexpected obstacle which needs to be lit, like a metal inspection cover which might be slippery in wet or icy conditions. This all sounds as though the areas of your lovely garden you will be lighting with a run of outdoor bollard lights might not be the most beautiful, but safety should really be everyone's first priority. If you and your visitors can be certain that the paths around your home are well lit, then you can enjoy your exteriors all the more. If you can do you’re planning on a calm and dry night, tea lights in jam jars would help you get the general idea, or if your family are willing to help, why not space them round the garden with a torch each, moving them around until you get the right balance of light.
